President Joko Widodo in his State Speech in front of the Joint Session of the DPD and DPR RI, on August 16 stated that the data is a new type of national wealth that is more valuable than oil. The challenge of BPS now is to provide quality data, not only from censuses, surveys, and administrative data, but also to think about how to utilize the extraordinary Big Data to build One Data Indonesia based on the principles:
- Meet data standards;
- Have metadata;
- Meet the rules of data interoperability;
- Using reference codes and master data.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of OKU Regency, Ir. Budiriyanto, MAP who read the remarks of the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Indonesia at the Apple event commemorating National Statistics Day on the page of the OKU Regency BPS office, Thursday (9/26) which was attended by all employees, employees, Dharma Wanita Persatuan BPS of the OKU Regency and all statistical representative partners sub-district in OKU Regency.
According to Budiriyanto, this year, the theme raised was "Towards Advanced Indonesia with Quality HR and Data". This theme is in line with the Government's priority programs for the next five years, namely human resource development, with a focus on Health, Vocational Education, Institutions, and Talent Management. The complexity of the problems faced certainly requires accuracy in decision making. Statistical data is very important to describe this complexity so that the Government has a strong foundation for policy making in various fields.
This is where the role of BPS as an official statistics provider becomes very important. In the midst of flooding data with volume (size), variety (type), and velocity (speed) that is so extraordinary that is called Big Data, BPS as an agency providing official statistics in Indonesia faces new challenges.
