Sharing Knowledge on Multidimensional Poverty BPS South Sumatra Province

BPS South Sumatra Province held a Multidimensional Poverty Index (KMD) Study by presenting the BPS RI team and other resource persons and inviting the Regency/City BPS Team to attend. The activity will take place on 10-11 October 2024.

KMD, which was adopted from the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) method, assesses poverty as broader than just income, covering three main dimensions, namely health, education and living standards.

It is important to measure poverty using a multidimensional approach because:

Focusing on a single factor, such as income, is not enough to depict the true reality of poverty

Multidimensional poverty measurements complement monetary measurements to create a more comprehensive picture of poverty

KMD complements the monetary poverty approach, providing a comprehensive picture for more effective policies in addressing poverty.
