Abstract

Palembang City in September 2012 experienced inflation of -0.29 percent (deflation) as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 132.54 (August 2012) to 132.15 (September 2012), while nationally there was inflation by 0.01 percent.
Deflation that occurred in Palembang in September 2012 was due to a decrease in the CPI in the foodstuffs group (-1.07 percent) followed by the transportation, communication and financial services group (- 0.38 percent) and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel (- 0.10 percent). Whereas the expenditure group that experienced an increase in the CPI was the clothing group (0.55 percent) and the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group (0.23 percent). While a group health and education, recreation and sport groups did not change the CPI.
2012 calendar year inflation in Palembang City was 1.72 percent while year on year inflation (September 2012 to September 2011) reached 2.60 percent.
Based on monitoring prices in 66 cities in Indonesia shows that 45 cities experienced defflation and 21 cities experienced inflation. The highest deflation occurred in Singkawang City (-2.18 percent) and the lowest deflation occurred in Medan City (-0.02 percent). While the highest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang City (0.74 percent) and the lowest inflation occurred in Dumai City (0.01 percent).
