Abstract
The total workforce in South Sumatra in February 2012 reached 3,929,461 people,
increased by around 158,788 people compared to the August 2011 workforce of 3,770,673
or an increase of 169,235 people compared to February 2011 of 3,760,226 people ..
The number of residents working in South Sumatra Province in February 2012 reached
3,709,683 people, an increase of about 156,579 people compared to the situation in August 2011
of 3,553,104 people or an increase of 177,541 people compared to the situation in February 2011
amounted to 3,532,142 people.
The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in South Sumatra in February 2012 reached 5.59
percent, a decrease of 0.18 percent compared to August 2011 TPT (5.77%) and
decreased by 0.48 percent compared to February 2011 (6.07%).
In terms of gender, men's TPT in February 2012 was 5.03 percent, lower
compared to female TPT which reached 6.44 percent.
TPT in urban areas in February 2012 was 9.14 percent, much higher
compared to TPT in rural areas which was only 3.85 percent.
When compared with the situation in February 2011, the number of residents employed in February
2012 experienced an increase in several sectors. Agriculture, Plantation, Forestry,
Hunting and Fisheries experienced an increase of 76,304 people (but experienced
decreased percentage by 6.49%), the Industrial Sector experienced a decrease in the amount of
37,067 people (the percentage also decreased 1.29%). Trade Sector. Restaurant and
Accommodation services amounted to an increase of 5,079 people (the percentage decreased by 0.62
%), The Social and Individual Community Service Sector increased by
87,048 people (the percentage increased 1.76%), and Other Sectors increased by 46,177
people (the percentage also increased by 0.76%).
In the past year (February 2012 - February 2011) there were additional workers
with labor / employee status of 152,296 people, unpaid workers / workers
family (107,364 people), workers with self-employment status (19,377 people), and workers
free in non-agriculture totaling 6,466 people. Meanwhile there was a decline in 3 (three) status
occupation, i.e. workers who try to be assisted by temporary workers are 44,849 people, workers
with the status of free workers on agriculture of 58,011 people, and workers who are engaged
assisted by permanent workers (decreased 5,102 people)
The largest percentage of the male population working in February 2012 is in status
laborers / employees (31.98%), while the largest percentage of female residents were
work as unpaid workers (46.66%)
