Abstract

  • Number of poor population (population below the poverty line) in Sumatra Province South in March 2012 as many as 1,057,031 people or 13.78 percent. Compared with poor population in March 2011 totaling 1,074,807 (14.24 percent), meaning the number of poor people decreased by 17,776 people.
  • During the period March 2011-March 2012, the poor population in urban areas fell by 20,493 people, whereas in rural areas it actually experienced an increase of 2,717 people. Although thus the percentage of poor people has decreased in both urban and rural areas
  • The composition of the poor according to the area of ​​residence (urban and rural) is not much change, where the majority (63.23 percent) of the poor are in rural areas
  • The poverty line in South Sumatra province is Rp. 252,377. Poverty line aturban areas Rp. 290,741, while the poverty line in rural areas is in the amount of IDR 230,997. Compared to March 2011, the poverty line experienced a good increase in urban and rural.
  • In the period March 2011-March 2012, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and Severity Index Poverty (P2) shows a downward trend. This indicates that on average expenditure of the poor tends to approach poverty and inequality the expenditure of the poor is somewhat narrowed
