Abstract

  • The city of Palembang in May 2013 experienced a deflation of 0.41 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 136.44 (April 2013) to 135.88 (May 2013), while inflation occurred nationally by -0.03 percent.
  • Deflation that occurred in the city of Palembang in May 2013 was due to a decrease in CPI in 2 (two) expenditure groups namely: the foodstuffs group (-1.94 percent) and the clothing group (-0.89 percent). Whereas expenditure groups that experienced an increase in CPI were processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by (0.85 percent), housing, water, electricity and fuel (0.41 percent), transportation groups (0.09 percent) and health group (0.02 percent).
  • Palembang calendar year inflation up to May 2013 was 1.83 percent, while nationally it was 2.30 percent. While inflation "year on year" (May 2013 against May 2012) in the city of Palembang was 4.23 percent, nationally at 5.47 percent.
  • Based on price monitoring during May 2013 in 66 major cities in Indonesia, it shows that 23 cities experienced inflation and 43 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Ambon (2.25 percent) and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Bogor (0.01 percent). While the highest deflation occurred in the city Mataram (-1.03 percent) and the lowest in the cities of Pekan Baru and Tasikmalaya (-0.01 percent).
