Abstract

  • The city of Palembang in May 2014 experienced inflation of -0.03 percent (deflation). The cumulative inflation rate from 2014 to May was 0.45 percent and the year on year inflation rate (May 2014 to May 2013) was 5.11 percent
  • Based on seven (7) expenditure groups, two (2) groups experienced a decrease in the price index, namely the foodstuffs group by -0.44 percent and the processed food, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco group by -0.03 percent. While three (3) expenditure groups experienced an increase in the price index, namely the clothing group by 0.23 percent; the health group 0.21 percent and the housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel group by 0.15 percent. While the education, recreation and sports group and the transportation, communication & financial services group did not experience changes in the CPI.
  • Commodities that experienced price declines with the highest deflation share in Palembang include: red chillies, rice, cayenne pepper, green chillies and wet shrimp. While commodities that experienced price increases with the highest share of inflation included purebred chicken, purebred eggs, cupboards, shallots and vegetable tomatoes.
  • The city of Lubuk Linggau in May 2014 experienced inflation of 0.37 percent. The cumulative inflation rate in 2014 to May was 0.60 percent and the year on year inflation rate (May 2014 against May 2013) was 3.65 percent.
  • Commodities that experienced price increases with the highest inflation share in Lubuk Linggau City during May 2014 included: broiler chicken meat, rice with side dishes, satay, spinach and soft chips. While commodities that experienced price declines with the highest share of deflation included, red chillies, watermelons, cayenne peppers, rice and bananas.
  • Based on the calculation of inflation in the city of Palembang and the city of Lubuk Linggau, in May 2014 the South Sumatra Province experienced inflation of 0.01 percent, the cumulative inflation rate up to May 2014 was 0.47 percent and the inflation rate "year on year" (May 2014 as of May 2013) was 4.96 percent.
  • Based on price monitoring during May 2014 in 82 CPI cities in Indonesia, it showed that 67 cities experienced inflation and 15 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Pematang Siantar (1.61 percent), the lowest occurred in the cities of Tegal and Kupang (0.01 percent). While the highest deflation occurred in the city of Pangkal Pinang (-1.27 percent), the lowest occurred in the city of Palembang (-0.03 percent). According to the regional region of Sumatra, it was stated that 23 CPI cities in this region, 16 cities experienced inflation and 7 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Pematang Siantar (1.61 percent), the lowest in the city of Bandar Lampung (0.04 percent). The highest deflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang (-1.27 percent), the lowest in Palembang (-0.03 percent).
