Abstract

The city of Palembang in August 2014 experienced inflation of 0.10 percent. The cumulative inflation rate from 2014 to August was 2.00 percent and the year on year inflation rate (August 2014 to August 2013) was 2.32 percent.
Based on seven (7) expenditure groups in Palembang City in August 2014, five (5) groups experienced an increase in price index namely housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel by 0.89 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco group of 0.41 percent; health group 0.35 percent; clothing group by 0,15 percent; education, recreation and sports group by 0.06 percent. Two (2) groups that experienced a price index decline were the transportation, communication & financial services group by -0.86 percent and the foodstuffs group by -0.12 percent.
Commodities that experienced an increase in prices with the highest share of inflation in the city of Palembang included: electric tariffs, purebred meat, catfish, filter clove cigarettes, tilapia and cucumbers. While commodities that experienced a decline in prices with the highest deflation contributed, among others, vegetable tomatoes, air transportation, transportation within the city, fruit tomatoes, conjoined sepat and shallots.
The city of Lubuk Linggau in August 2014 experienced inflation of 0.06 percent. The cumulative inflation rate from 2014 to August was 2.87 percent and the year on year inflation rate (August 2014 to August 2013) was 1.61 percent.
Commodities that experienced price increases with the highest inflation share in Lubuk Linggau City during August 2014 included: red chilli, native chicken meat, electric tariffs, apples, elementary schools and water spinach. While commodities that experienced price declines with the highest share of deflation included oranges, eggs, beef, bananas, spinach and anchovies.
Based on the calculation of inflation in the city of Palembang and the city of Lubuk Linggau, in August 2014 the South Sumatra Province experienced inflation of 0.10 percent, the cumulative inflation rate up to August 2014 was 2.09 percent and the inflation rate was "year on year" (August 2014 as of August 2013) is 2.25 percent.
Based on price monitoring during August 2014 in 82 CPI cities in Indonesia, it showed that 66 cities experienced inflation and 16 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan City (1.98 percent), the lowest occurred in Banjarmasin City (0.02 percent). The highest deflation occurred in Ternate City (-1.02 percent), while the lowest deflation was in Samarinda City (-0.01 percent).
