Abstract

Abstraction

The Consumer Tendency Index (ITK) is an indicator of the latest consumer economic development produced by the Central Bureau of Statistics through the Consumer Tendency Survey (STK). ITK is an index that describes the condition of the consumer economy in the current quarter and forecasts for the coming quarter.

The number of STK samples in South Sumatra in the fourth quarter of 2016 was 340 households out of a total of 14,600 sample households. The selection of samples is carried out in panels between quarters to obtain a more accurate picture of changes in consumer perceptions over time. Beginning in the first quarter of 2015, improvements were made to the method of enumeration and calculation of ITK. STK respondents were selected in the medium and high category census block strata based on wealth index and were a subsample of the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) specifically in urban areas.

B. Condition of Consumer Economy Quarter IV-2016

K The ITK value of South Sumatra Province in the fourth quarter of 2016 was 100.40, meaning that the economic conditions of consumers increased from the previous quarter. This consumer optimism level was lower than the previous quarter (ITK value of 101.14).

þ Improved consumer economic conditions in the fourth quarter of 2016 were mainly driven by rising household income (index value of 101.78), followed by increases in goods / services consumption (index value of 101.78). While inflation that occurs is quite influential on total household expenditure (index value of 97.92).

C. Estimated Consumer Economy Quarter I-2017

Economic conditions in the first quarter of 2017 are estimated at 101.62, meaning that the economic conditions of consumers are expected to improve. The magnitude of this index shows that consumers are more optimistic in the coming quarter compared to the fourth quarter of 2016.

The increase in the condition of the consumer economy in the first quarter of 2017 was estimated due to the increase in household income.
