Abstract

  • The manufacturing industry sector has a very important role in the national economy, even giving the biggest added value among the eight other GRDP sectors, and remains the leading sector in the economy of South Sumatra. Nearly 25 percent of the economy in South Sumatra Province is supported by the manufacturing industry sector. In the first quarter of 2011, the contribution of the manufacturing industry to the economy of South Sumatra was 23.58 percent, and there was a slight slowdown in growth in the second quarter of 2011 to 22.82 percent.
  • Large and Medium Manufacturing Industry Production Growth in the III quarter of 2011 South Sumatra Province experienced a slowdown of growth to 3.76 percent compared to the second quarter of 2011 which amounted to 3.45 percent. The increase in growth in the third quarter was due to an increase in the growth of the food and beverage industry which reached 10.95 percent compared to the second quarter which was only 2.23 percent. In addition, the increase in growth rate was also due to an increase in growth in the type of chemical industry and chemical goods in the third quarter to 9.25 percent compared to the previous quarter which was -4.74 percent. As for the type of rubber industry and goods from rubber and plastic goods in the third quarter it experienced a slowdown in growth to 1.51 percent compared to the second quarter of the same year which reached 6.10 percent.
  • The growth rate of the Micro and Small Industry sector in South Sumatra during the last two quarters has always experienced positive growth. However, the growth rate of the third quarter of 2011 to a slightly decreased growth to -9.68 percent compared to the second quarter which reached 3.90 percent.
