Abstract

  • The number of the workforce in South Sumatra in August 2011 reached 3,770,673 people, an increase of about 10,447 compared to the February 2011 workforce of 3,760,226 people or an increase of 105,629 people compared to August 2010 of 3,665,044 people.
  • The number of people working in South Sumatra Province in August 2011 reached 3,553,104 people, an increase of around 20,962 people compared to the situation in February 2011 of 3,532,142 people or an increase of 131,911 people compared to the situation in August 2010 of 3,421,193 people.
  • The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in South Sumatra in August 2011 reached 5.77 percent, decreased 0.88 percent compared to February 2011 (6.65%) and decreased 0.30 percent compared to the August 2010 TPT (6.65% ).
  • In terms of gender, male TPT in August 2011 was 5.09 percent, lower than female TPT which reached 6.85 percent.
  • TPT in urban areas in August 2011 was 9.54 percent, far higher than in rural areas which was only 3.93 percent.
  • Last year (August 2010 - August 2011), all sectors experienced an increase in the number of workers. Trade Sector. Restaurants and Accommodation Services, Agriculture, Plantation, Forestry, Hunting and Fisheries, Social and Personal Service Sector, Other Sectors and Industrial Sectors respectively became the largest contributors to employment in South Sumatra in February 2011.
  • In August 2011, the largest percentage of the population of South Sumatra worked as laborers / employees, reaching 1,071,150 people (30.15%), family workers / unpaid workers of 816,529 (22.98%), attempting to be assisted by non-permanent workers totaling 718,643 people (20.23%) and there are around 622,198 people (17.62%) who are self-employed.
  • The largest percentage of the male population working in August 2011 was workers / employees (33.20%), while the largest percentage of the female population working as unpaid workers (44.21%).
