Abstract

  • Number of poor population (population below the poverty line) in Sumatra Province South in September 2011 as many as 1,061,865 people or 13.95 percent. Compared to the poor population in March 2011 which amounted to 1,074,807 people (14.24 percent), means the number of poor people decreased by 12,942 people or down 0.29 percent.
  • During the period March - September 2011, the poor population in urban areas decreased by as much 1,726 people or down 0.21 percent, while in rural areas decreased by 11,216 people or reduced by 0.34 percent. Thus, the percentage of poor people experienced decline in both urban and rural areas.
  • The composition of the poor according to the area of ​​residence (urban and rural) is not much change, where the majority (61.63 percent) of the poor are in rural areas.
  • The poverty line in South Sumatra Province is Rp. 247,397. Poverty line at urban areas Rp. 288,432, - while the poverty line in rural areas is in the amount of Rp 224,497. Compared to March 2011, the poverty line experienced a good increase in urban and rural.
  • In the period March - September 2011, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and Severity Index Poverty (P2) is equally declining. This indicates that the average expenditure poor people tend to get closer to the poverty line and inequality of population expenditure poor is getting narrower.
