Abstract

  • The city of Palembang in May 2012 experienced an inflation of 0.08 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 130.25 (April 2012) to 130.36 (May 2012), while nationally there was inflation of 0.07 percent .
  • Inflation that occurred in Palembang City in May 2012 was due to an increase in CPI in 5 (five) expenditure groups, namely the foodstuffs group (0.09 percent), the processed food, drinks, cigarettes and tobacco group (0.11 percent), the housing group , water, electricity and fuel (0.07 percent), the health group (0.25 percent) and the transportation and communication group (0.13 percent).
  • 2012 calendar year inflation in the city of Palembang was 0.35 percent, while year-on-year inflation (May 2012 against May 2011) was 3.90 percent.
  • Based on monitoring prices in 66 cities in Indonesia, it shows that 37 cities experienced inflation and 29 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Pontianak City (0.93 percent) and the lowest inflation occurred in Balikpapan City (0.04 percent), while the highest deflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang City (-1.15 percent) and the lowest deflation occurred in Bogor City (- 0.03 percent).
